Iran's envoy to Vatican: mitigation "possible" in stoning case as Islamic law allows

He said Islamic law "is inspired by clemency and forgiveness." Asked if that meant the 43-year-old mother of two might receive clemency, the envoy replied that "some mitigation of the punishment is possible."

The ambassador to the Holy See didn't elaborate.

On Sunday, the Vatican raised the possibility of using its diplomatic channels on humanitarian grounds in the case but stopped short of saying such efforts had begun.

THE GOSPEL DOESN'T ENTERTAIN THE FLESH

The gospel has nothing to do with entertaining the flesh or relieving the sinner of circumstances that his sin has induced. It has everything to do with declaring the holiness of God, the depravity of the human condition, and of the awful price that Jesus paid to reconcile fallen sinners to an impeccable God. It is a message to sober the frivolous, to humble the proud, to awaken the indifferent and careless ones; a message to break the blasphemer, silence the scoffer, and to cause the sinner to repent. It is a message to prepare new creatures for heaven, not rehabilitate sinners to live more comfortably on the earth or more prosperously in this world.

Four People Missing as Colorado Wildfires Rage On

When everyone was glued to the TV watching the birth of Lord Krishna, he slipped away with the baby and threw her in a gutter close to the temple of the deity. Then he returned home, pretending as if nothing had happened.

Later, however, he did tell about what he had done to his wife and his in-laws. His neighbours sensed something amiss when they did not see the newborn baby for three consecutive days. On finding out what had happened, they reported the matter to the police. After a thorough search, the police recovered the body of the baby from the drain.

As an elected leader, he is not free to either place America in a false light or to destroy her credibility. He is the President but that position in America in no way equates with being a Monarch or dictator.
